Uncommon Threads was established to help preserve the fiber arts. I’ve always been interested in fiber. I was in total amazement, as a child, when my grandmother would crochet doilies on those teeny steel hooks out of teeny thread and create something tangible out of “nothing”. It wasn’t until I began weaving and spinning that I found out that my other grandmother in Italy used to weave all the household linens and my father (the tailor) raised silk worms. My uncle owned a dye house and my mother used to work there as a silk screener. My other uncle worked in a factory threading looms, and my grandfather owned a clothing factory. I guess working and loving fiber is just a part of me.

So, Uncommon Threads was created to help me pass along the passion of fiber to others. My daughter always told me that it’s “a happy store” because all of the people are there because it gives them pleasure. We offer a variety of yarns, equipment, and classes to satisfy your needs, and perhaps interest you to try something new.
